Orientation - Workshop on Visual Narratives (Batch 2012)

The Advertising & Graphic Design & Fashion Technology students (Batch 2012 ,Delhi Campus ) were introduced to Visual Narratives .The workshop was scheduled in the 2nd week of August as a part of the orientation, it was conducted by Faculty Ms. Deepti Baveja (HOD) Delhi, Advertising & Graphic Design. 

It was based on one of the most fundamental elements of art - the line & one of the simplest form - the circle. This exercise was a journey …a conscious effort to discover lines and circles in the spaces around us through the medium of photography. During this workshop Students were required to photograph images of lines that can be found in the surroundings. 

With a little motivation & practice the students created a narration with lines & circle .The impactful composition & visual imagery was exhibited in the class. Few of the students work created during the Visual Narrative workshop shared.

The term ‘Graphic Design’ was coined by William Addison Dwiggins in 1922. Graphic Designing is a process which involves designers to create a design or logo for a targeted audience. It is usually a form of advertising media. It involves a fusion of various images and self made designs on technological equipment. In fact the infusion of technology in fashion industry has made it more dynamic and vibrant. This infusion has made things more sophisticated.

The outcomes of this highly creative process can be observed in our daily life. You see graphic designs on logos of consumer products, tickets, billboards, greeting cards, credit cards, packages,  brands and all sorts of products to name a few.  Courses in Graphic Design has become a highly lucrative business and evolved to a great extent since the first use of it in the caves of Lascaux. Its an old and correct saying that if you choose a career based on what you like, you are very much likely to do well in your professional career. But if you do something following to others and not putting your own brains, then surely you will have a tough time achieving more than mediocrity. Today students are more inclined towards doing something different and new and thus look for creative options.

Talking about new careers, then there are a lot of them, which includes Graphic designing, animation, cosmetology, Archaeology, Gemmology, forestry and wildlife conservation. I am pretty sure that a majority of you must not be even aware of these options. Well, this is majorly because these professions are not hyped like other mainstream professions. But, with increasing competition in mainstream, there are a lot of students, who are making their way towards these professions. In fact, to come to my surprise, so many b-schools in India, which have taken initiative and are offering certificate and degree programmes in these professions. Those, who want to do something different, can try out their hands in these career options.

Arjun Sahdev, Creative Director, Brand Daddies Alumni of WLC Advertising & Graphic Design, Delhi, delivered an interesting talk on Changing trends & freelance Global opportunity .During the interaction he shared his experience at McCann Erickson & advised the young group on the upcoming design careers.  He shared and discussed some projects done for international & domestic brands.. Like Urban Café, Pined, 1 Boulevard , Boom box ,Café Dim-Cha, Spoons & Downstairs Lounge, Jaguar ,Reebok, Microsoft Videocon etc Arjun believes our home is India, but our work is everywhere.....
