Ford
unveiled a new concept car, an ultra lightweight Fusion that is 800 pounds
lighter than the models currently in the market.
The
concept car is a mid-sized family sedan and has shed nearly 25% of its weight.
Thus, making it about the same weight as the Ford Fiesta, which is the
manufacturer's smallest car.
To
reduce its weight, Ford substituted the material in almost every part of the
car for lightweight alternatives, including high-strength steel, magnesium,
aluminum and carbon fiber. It is its performance on road now by which its
ratings will be measured.
